Corvette: Z06 Status

Only two cars made it as 440/6's for 72. I doubt very much you have one of
those two. It must be a 71.

That's what he originally said. Then when I went to pick up the car and put
1971 on the bill of sale, he said to change it to 1972. Can I find out
about this car from the VIN, or is the car too old at this point? I really
want to know exactly what the heck I have. :-)

Re: Z06 Status
Hi
Vin should read
RS23V2AXXXXXX for 72 and RS23V1AXXXXXX for 71
Might also say RS21 for Coupe. RS23 is Hardtop GTX. RM is Roadrunner. RL is
taxie.
V is for 440/6
U is for 440/4
N is for 383/400 HP
2 is for 72 and 1 is for 71

Hi Larry. I checked - I have RH23U2Gxxxxxx. Here is all I could find:
R = Plymouth "B" body (Satellite, Sebring, Roadrunner, GTX)
H = Price class - High
23 = 2 door hardtop
U = 440 1-4BBL 8 Cylinder "RB" engine (High Performance)
2 = 1972
G = St. Louis, Missouri.
I am thinking this is a clone GTX, and actually a Sebring or Roadrunner.
Someone told me GTX was always a sick pack or a hemi. What do I have?!?!?!?
If I call Daimler-Chrysler; can they look at the 6 digit sequence number
and look up what the options and original owner are/were?

Re: Z06 Status
R only mens B body. The H or high class is usually for Satellite. GTX usually
has a S rating for Sport class but this may have changed for 72.

So we have it nailed down to Sattelite. How can I find out if it's a
regular one, a Sebring, or a Sebring Plus?

That's a twin of the info I found and posted earlier. For some reason,
they did not use a VIN letter to designate the difference between the
Sebring, Roadrunner, and GTX. Not a big deal, I'm gonna just use it at
the track anyway. But I think I am going to do it as a Roadrunner. I like
the graphics on that car, and this already has the RR / GTX hood, not the
flat Sebring one.

That reminds me... I'm finally getting around to making the page for ya.
Email me offline - gotta couple questions for you.
That's also why I stayed with a dry 100hp kit - the install took 3
evenings, 1/2 of which was changing the plugs and fabbing a bracket
for the bottle.
Lean + nitrous = BAD. Think melted piston bad. Or worse.
You shouldn't have to pull all 8 plugs, I'd do a couple from each
bank that are easy to get to. Also, for a 250 shot are you
pulling timing and/or running colder plugs?

Did you ever get that mother-load FTP I did?
I can do 100, 150, or 250 all from the one wet system I have.
I forget the name of the company who sold them - but yeah, I have 2 temps
colder. I am running them in the car full time - I don't think it hurts
anything to be a little colder without the N2).
