Winter Oil Change...
Is it better to change the oil in a C5 before winter storage or in the
spring?
Thanks,
Dave

I do both. You need to change the oil every 90 days anyway. So do a Jiffy
Lube Synthetic change for $49 in the fall, then do a real Mobil One change
in the spring using a Delco Gold filter.

You must have gotten a different manual than we did.

I have done oil changes every 3k miles or 90 days for as long as I can
remember. I am not so cheap that $29 is the end of the world. Oil starts
wearing down from the moment you first run your motor. When you have
published studies on viscosity breakdown and metal wear that shows that
frequent oil changes do nothing, you just come one back in here and post
them. I don't care of GM makes an announcement tomorrow morning that
motors will run for 500K miles without *EVER* having a single oil change -
I can post unlimited studies on engine wear that shows that oil is most
protective when it is first placed into the engine. In fact, none of my
C5's have ever run more than 1,000 miles on an oil change. There is no such
thing as oil that gets better with age. But hey, I bet you think that
NA$CAR, NHRA, IRL, CART, SCCA, and F1 recommend used oil in their cars
because old oil is so much better than fresh oil, eh?

Re: Winter Oil Change...
Im with you man.....change the oil very often. And change the gearbox
and rear diff. fluid often too. Not only is this a benefit to your
machine, but, when you go to sell your vette ... you can show that you
were meticulous in looking after it and perhaps get what youre asking
for (or closer to it).
I dont go for the hype on Oil that doesnt need to be changed for 30,000
miles ; to me, thats plain silly in a car like a Corvette. I love
AMSOIL products mainly because they have an independent test comparison
between the major auto oil suppliers....although Amsoil pushes their
Extended mileage Oil , which i dont agree with. Lubricating properties
in oil start to diminish from the time you add fresh oil.

Re: Winter Oil Change...
Change it before(any oil you want) and after(what you would normally
run $$$)
Your oil in it now(unless new) most likely contains a fair amount of
foreign materials that can break down further into damaging compounds.
Also do you plan to start up your car while in storage? or is it truly
going to sit for months without ever starting up?
If you plan to run it every so often, try to let it run ~30 min. You
need to ensure the entire system(exhaust also) is 100% up to running
temp. Else you will just make problems. running for 5-10min is
usually worse than just letting it sit.
If you plan on letting the thing just sit for months. Before you
crank it up again you can take out the plugs and put a spoonful of oil
in the cylinders, let it sit for 10-20 min, then fire it up. That
will help insure that the bores & rings will have oil
