Pontiac: Winshield Wiper issue - 97 Grand Prix

Winshield Wiper issue - 97 Grand Prix
Following a major snowfall and cold temperatures, cleared snow off
windshield. Following this, turned on wipers,
worked fine on all settings. Normally, when turning off wipers, they are are
to 'recede' just below the hood. Now what
happens when turning off the wipers, is that they go down into the shutdown
position but then immediately come back
up and stop diagonally on the driver's side of the window (10:00 /11:00
o'clock position) i.e. Wipers make one extra 'swipe'.
Wiper motor appears to be working perfectly, but cannot get wipers to 'stop'
in the recessed position.
Is there possibly a problem with the circuit board?
Anyone have a similar experience or any thoughts as to potential problem?
Thanks.

I don't have answer to your question, but on my 94 Grand Prix, the wipers
are stuck in right before then go down into the cowl, but don't work on any
setting but high, and just moved up and down really quickly.

This is a common problem. There is a campaign on these
vehicles that will address this problem. I'll just quote a bit of
the campaign below:
Condition
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle
safety exists in certain 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick Century and Buick
Regal model vehicles. The windshield wipers may stop working, usually after
operation under heavy load conditions such as accumulated snow or ice,
because of a separation between the drive pin and crescent in the crank arm
assembly. If this were to occur during driving in adverse weather
conditions, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a
vehicle crash without warning.
Correction
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers are to
identify affected vehicles by inspecting for the presence of a plastic water
deflector and, if necessary, replace the wiper motor crank arm and install a
water deflector. On vehicles receiving a replacement crank arm and new water
deflector, dealers will also apply additional sealing material to improve
water deflection away from the crank arm assembly and will install a
reinforcement to improve the performance of the wiper park mechanism.
Take your car into a dealership and have them run the VIN and see
if you have had this campaign performed yet on this vehicle.
