What is the sign of a worn guibo@flex disc@driveshaft coupling?
What is the sign of a worn guibo@flex disc@driveshaft coupling?
I drive an automatic 318i 1988 UK model.
I have had problems with clunking noise at low speeds when
accelarating and sometimes when coming to an abrupt stop.
I love my E30 and have replaced the driveshaft, center bearing, subframe
bushes and trailing arm bushes. The noises have reduced and handling
improved but I just cant get rid of this clunking.
Could it be the guibo@flex disc@driveshaft coupling?
Thanks.

Re: What is the sign of a worn guibo@flex disc@driveshaft coupling?
If you can get underneath your car, or get it up in the air, look at the
rubber disc that connects the transmission to the driveshaft. If it's solid,
and doesn't show any wear signs, you're ok. If it's got strings peeling off
of it, or if it's cracked, get it replaced as soon as possible. I had and
E36 3-series come in on a tow truck because that disk broke and the
driveshaft ripped through the floor of the car. Not a cheap repair....

If you've had the driveshaft replaced they should have replaced the
guibo joint. Is the clunking occuring at gear changes, or is it just
continuosly as your driving? If it's at gear changes the rear dif fluid
could be low or it may need to be looked at.
