What Is The Sign Of Transmission Mount Failure?
What Is The Sign Of Transmission Mount Failure?
I have been trying to solve an annoying knocking noise from the rear
of my 15 yr old E30 318i Auto since I bought the car 3 mths back.
I have todate changed the driveshaft, center bearing, trailing arm
bushes and rear axle bushes.
My car is much quieter now but the knocking noise remains.....it seems
to happen when I slow down or suddenly take my foot off the
accelarator.
My next project is the Transmission @ Motor Mount/Tranny bushes?
Any advise?
Thanks.

Re: What Is The Sign Of Transmission Mount Failure?
A common symptom is that the car jumps around when backing, particularly
backing uphill. If it is difficult to get a smooth launch in reverse on a
hill, or anytime, then this is a sign of a broken mount. By your
description, I don't think you have a bad mount. I am worried that you might
be having something ready to let go in the differential.

Could be something simple like the exhaust box rubbing on the bodywork??
