Garmin GPS: What is correct address form

What is correct address form
I have a nuvi 350 and after a 6,000 mile trip using it I think it is great.
There are a few things improvements I can think of, but overall I love it.
I have trouble entering addresses that are on a highway. I'm not use of the
correct form. On several highway addresses I entered I got the "no matches"
message.
Here are a couple:
1440 N US Hwy 87, Fredericksburg, TX
I entered it several different ways. But couldn't get the north in. So the
directions took me to south US 87.
Also, 48053 Hwy 101 S, Bandon, OR
I get three matches using "US 101", but nuvi didn't seem to understand the
south part of address.
Is there a certain form I should be using for highway addresses?
Thanks.

Re: What is correct address form
Don't enter north or south. Just the street name. It should give you a
choice of the two.
It happen to me, Went to a address and as I entered it, It gave me two
choices. N or S (Street name) I had to call the place back and ask them. It
was north. Once I selected north it was right on the money.

Re: What is correct address form
Highway addresses can be tricky and sometimes you must try several
different ways and then many highway addresses don't seem to be in the data
base. Quickly searching I didn't find either of your addresses in the data
base.

Re: What is correct address form
In Mapsource I searched on 87 and it found US 87. No street addresses.
Same with US 101.
I tried it in Mappoint and the results on Texas where about the same. US
101 had the address, but no N or S.

Re: What is correct address form
Yes, Garmin uses the best maps available. There is no such thing as
perfect maps. Garmin chose to use the best maps available at this time.

Re: What is correct address form
You would think that someone that spends 600.00 plus would want it don't you
think.
Nothing is perfect. But sometimes you have to wonder why it can't be better.
Now for spending upwards to 100.00 or more for the next new dvd map
software. In this case ver 8. I ask why ? It's not worth it.
I'll just keep a list of things I find at fault. Then once it's in the new
unit's. Go to the store and check it out myself before pulling out the cash.
Garmin still does not know how the nuvi owner is going to update to ver 8. I
think that's dumb on there part. It's going to be out soon and they wont say
how it's going to be done. dealer or end user install.
That's sad.

I entered "1440 N US Hwy 87, Fredericksburg, TX" in the find box in M$
S&T 2006 (NavTeq 2006 data and TeleData algorithms) and it produced two
results. One is on US 87 N and the other on US 87 S. The displayed
road vectors are marked as "US 87 N" and "US 87 S" on the map but it
appears that it is not part of the search algorithm.
So try entering it without the N or S and sorting through the results,
maybe that will solve the problem for you.
M$ S&T 2006 found only one result for "48053 Hwy 101 S, Bandon, OR".
That is located on US 101 about 300 yards north of Gilman Road. The
vector for US 101 is marked as the Pacific Coast Highway there with no
references to north or south.
I don't think there is a standard form or protocol for entering searches
or for marking map vectors. It may be that your nuvi is being to
literal in what it excludes from the search or that you are being too
literal or specific in the search entry.
Like someone else suggested, this stuff is all far from perfect. But I
would add that is it almost always better than not having anything.

Re: What is correct address form
I received this answer to my question from Garmin:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
When you have US highways, state highways, county roads, and rural routes,
just enter the number of that highway. In your example, enter only 101 as
the street name. Use the 123 button to enter this number.
