Infiniti: warranty issue

warranty issue
I have a 1999 infiniti qx4 and purchased extended warranty when I
bought the car(used).
I took the car in to have the brake fixed and was told by the dealer
that the front crank, cam seals, rear main seals and the oil pressure
sending unit were leaking.
He said that the problems will be covered by the warranty if it had
not expired, unfortunatly my car exceed the waranty deadline by 1000
miles. The warranty expired after 100,000 miles.
I was hoping that the dealer will still honor the warranty since it
just expired and the problems with the car seem like a defect and not
wear and tear and also I had being doing regular services with them.
They have refused to honor the warranty.
My question is, do I have a case against them?
thanks,
trav.

Re: warranty issue
Rock,
You can sue but you will not win. They have not refused to honor the
warranty. The warranty has expired due to the high mileage on your vehicle.
Check your oil level often and start saving for an engine rebuild.

No. The warranty has expired. In fact, they *are* honoring the warranty's
expiration date.

Probably not. Any warranty has to have a cutoff point, and
inevitably there will be problems that happen right after that to a
certain proportion of people.
You say "defect not wear and tear". Warranties typically cover
defects and typically don't cover wear and tear. But even defects
are covered only if they show up during the warranty period, which
yours (alas!) didn't.
About the only hope is to hope that the manufacturer maybe has a
Secret warranty. These are not uncommon. I don't know how to find
out, but folks on a cars group would be able to tell you. (Read
their FAQ first.)
Most likely you're going to end up paying for this yourself.
Definitely get estimates from independent mechanics. Maybe you can
use them to negotiate a price match from the dealer; if not, go with
an independent that friends or co-workers recommend.

The warranty has expired. There is none to honor. Did these multiple
leaks just all start up at the same time? Seems 1000 miles at 25,000
miles/year wasn't too long ago.
If you bought the car from the dealer, maybe they might work a 50/50 deal
with you in order to keep you as a potential future customer.
Otherwise, give your car to a charity and buy some other brand in the future.

That's a silly suggestion. Your warranty was with Infinity or another
3rd party, not the dealership. If it was the dealership that collected
the money that you paid for the warranty, they MIGHT've had some
slight moral incentive to still service your car for free even though
the warranty has expired. But you didn't pay them, so why would they
want to do anything major like this for free???
