<yawn>
Fuck that old news.
They've just unveiled a Golf with the 6.0 W12, twin-turbo, 650bhp, in the
back... Clio v6/R5 Turbo styley...

Great to see the Germans thinking outside the square with a totally radical
designed vehicle and away for the Model T Ford engine. Whilst not most
drivers cup of tea, it could be a turning point for the design of cars to
come. I'd imagine with 2 on board the 0-100kmh time would be in the minutes
and not seconds. However with a bigger engine and body together with a fuel
consumption in the vicinity of 100mpg, it could be more marketable.
The following piece (taken from the post) is a bit difficult to get my head
around, anyone care to help? Quote< "The engine is positioned just ahead of
the rear axle and is mated to an all-new 6-speed manual transmission that
shifts automatically." ........ Now is that double Dutch or double German???

were saying :
Hardly radical. It looks like a bit of a ripoff of Friend Wood's Tryane II
- http://home.clara.net/peterfrost/tryaneii.html - which was built in the
late 80s/early 90s, along Costin's 1950s/60s aerodynamic research.
I presume you don't mean that bit...
No, it's not a new concept, but, yes, the wording is a little odd.
It'll be a box, of "manual design", but sellotaped to control electronics
to do the gearchanging for you - rather than a box of "traditional
automatic design".
Citroen were 2/3 of the way there with the semi-auto in the DS in the '50s,
and the ETS in the C4 is also this same kinda thing. I'm sure there's
others, too.
