    Trouble shooting

I'm trying to isolate a starting problem. And, went through the procedure
that shows Engine Codes. It came back with "1444" - everything normal. In
the last dozen attempts, the engine started twice if I held the starter for
a couple of seconds. Normally, it kicks over right away. This problem just
showed up one morning with no warnings. Though it might be a fuel problem
(since I ran empty a week before); changed the fuel filters; it started once
and ran well. Later in the day, it refused to start again.
    Got any ideas?
    TIA
