    Transfer Case

    Hey all

So.....what happens to the transfer case of a '91 jeep cherokee when
you drive it locked in 4-wheel drive (because it's either frozen or
just plain broke) until it heats up, whines a lot and then pours fluid
all over the pavement? What's the best case and the worst? Any
    thoughts would be great.

    Thanks in advance

    CB ~

Not good. Best case, you just overheated it and did not damage (not
likely) Worst case, you fried the bearings and stretch/worn out the
front drive chain and possibly cooked the seals too. You need to either
pull it and inspect/repair it before more damage is done, or replace it.

find a used replacement for yours at a salvage yard in your area here: http://www.car-part.com/index.htm

should'nt cost more than a couple hundred dollars and 2 hours of your time to drop the old one and pop in the replacement. beats paying a thousand or more for a new one.
