    Tranny Problem

89 5.0 GT Vert with AOD. Stock everything, 2.73 gears
    33K miles

Just got the vert back from the body shop. Had to replace the hood,
dr. side front fender and top from when the tree branch fell on it.
    Looks great!

Car and trani ran fine when it went into the shop. On the way home
noticed that it didnt go hard when I jumped on the gas..just gradual
    acceleration.

Tried to smoke the tires by standing on the brakes and gas at the next
light (as a test, not for fun)..nothing..used to be able to do this.

On highway home started noticing that when I went to accelerate, the
rpms went way up but the speed didnt change..got gradually worse

By time I got home ( 45 minutes later) I was doing 40-45 and couldnt
accelerate at all. When in overdirive had no go at all over 30. If
shift to drive, could get to 40-45 before rpms climbed with no
corresponding increase in speed. At stop light if shift to first gear,
whining noise at start to 10 mph, but accelerates up to 20 fine, then
shift to drive is fine up to 40.

    Checked trani fluid is full.

Please tell me what I can check that does not involve rebuilding the
trani aas I dont have the cashe for that now or anywhere in the
    forseeable future.

Car is parked until I figure out what to do. and it looks like we will
finally get a sunny day here in cleveland...
    it figures!

I blame Kate for this! She started something with the whole terrorist
    trani problem!!

Sounds like your clutch is fried. Time for a new clutch, no two ways
    about it........................

    opined in news:com:

Check the TVS cable... at throttle bellcrank.

Get a book, make sure it's adjusted RIGHT, dont guess.

Ever change tranny fluid? At 33k, I bet NOT.

Change it. Bet filter is clogged with condensation sludge. Remember the
    tranny breathes too.

But then I'm the guy that had the idea that ALMOST worked on the Terrorist.

    Re: Tranny Problem

Sounds like the same problem I had with my '94 Nissan Shitra. And that was a
5-speed. Shop told me that the main seal on the engine was leaking oil onto
the clutch causing it to slip and wear prematurely.

Since your car is an auto, I'm sure the clutch has given up the ghost and
gone to the big trany junk yard in the sky.

My first AOD on my 1988 died at 22k. Fourth gear disappeared. Second
time, at 69k. Third time at 155k. Lets just say they can't take the
output of the engine if the car is driven hard.
