    tranny fluid?

If you get your transmission rebuilt, and it's a Dodge van, should the
rebuilders put atf+3 or is it ok to put dexroniii/mercon since they rebuilt
    it?

    thanks

I will never understand why people think they can ignore the fluid spec
    for Chrysler automatic transmissions.

I agree - personally think that is the biggest reason why those Dodge
Caravan's are famous for transmission failures. I've seen them go over
200,000 miles running the correct fluid. If your shop put in the wrong
fluid you went to the wrong shop.

Yep. That said, with Scamsoil droids and assorted others bleating about
that sleazy outfit's disinformation propaganda about a "universal"
transmission fluid, and various other companies putting out additives they
claim will "convert" Dexron to ATF+3, +4, etc., the education effort isn't
    exactly unilateral.

    Re: tranny fluid?

DO NOT use anything but Chrysler transmission fluid, unless you want to
replace it again after a year or so, and you will never think of the
connection between the fluid and trans failure. Any other fluid will ruin
the electric parts in it. Your owners manual may tell you that Dextron 2
can be used in if Chrysler fluid cannot be found. The voice of experience.

There is no such thing as "Dextron" fluid. It's Dexron. Without a "T". And
you're right, it has no place in an '89 or later Chrysler trans.

My neighbor owns a muffler repair shop that does general work as well.
He started doing transmission overhauls a few years ago. He said he
had lots of Caravan trannys that did not last too long after rebuild.
He uses Dexron in everything. I gave him the info on ATF+3 and ATF+4,
but he continues on his way. It's very profitable because the units do
    get past his limited warranty.

My 88 Aries says Dexron on the dipstick but after changing it to Dexron, it
started to shift lousy. A week later I put in Plus 3 and my transmission is
    back.
