Toyota: Toyota Conquest 1997 1300c.c. manual(stick-shift)

Hi, can anyone help with this problem. Car has done 70,000 Kms, and this
winter (in South Africa) first thing in the cool mornings, the manual shift
will stick in 1st gear whilst trying to move to 2nd gear. This disappears
within a few minutes and only reappears on the next cool morning. I am at a
loss as whether this could be a gear linkage problem, or something worn in
the gearbox.
