Topaz - 2.3 liter- front oil seal

    Car:
    1993 Topaz
    2.3 Liter engine
    Air

Problem: Front oil seal leaking. According to Autozone.com the engine
has to come out to make this repair. I stopped by and ask a different
mechanic about taking the engine out. He said just drop the engine down
about two inches and take the pulley off, replace the seal.

I have never taken an engine out of a car before.

Anyone change the seal by dropping the engine a couple of inches? If so did
you have to take off the high pressure air conditioning line that runs under
the oil pan or will that move along with the engine.

    Thanks in advance.

i am not familar with a topaz, but when you have to drop an engine an
inch or two or lift it a little you dont mess with the a/c lines.. then
just move along.....just keep an eye out for the a/c lines along with
other wires/cables/ so you dont stretch them too much or they will break
    and mess you up....
    hope this helps.

    Ross,

I've done several tempo/topaz oil seal replacements. It really is quite
simple if your mechanically inclined. Place a jack under engine oil pan with
a board to protect the pan. jack up the engine just enough to release the
pressure from the weight of the engine. Then from top passenger side, remove
the bracket that connects the front top motor mount to the frame/inner well.
now lower the engine enough to remove the center bolt from the pulley. This
will allow you to remove the pulley (assuming you already removed any belts
etc.). Remember not to lower the engine any lower then you have to. You
will not have to remove any a/c lines. Just be careful and pay attention
    when lowering.

Some Tempo/Topaz models had issues with the harmonic balancer. You would
know this from symptoms like excessive vibration or noise. This could cause
a seal to leak. These vehicles are known for having oil pan leakage as
well. The pans are sealed to the engine with a special silicone sealer
(available at ford dealers). Check it out before jumping into any repairs

    Hope this helps.
