    Testing Coil Springs on '69

    1. Would someone tel me how to determine, for sure, if the front coil
springs of my '69 vette are normal or sagging? Are there measurements I
can make that would tell me?

    2. Someone inserted spring stabilizers in my springs. However, I'm not
sure that I can assume that the springs are sagging. The stabilizers
might have been inserted to raise the height of my front end. Is this a
    reasonable possibility?

    Thanks,
    Charles

Charles, you should get a copy of the factory service manual if you plan to
tinker with any old car. They are available from most of the usual specialty
    parts dealers...

The Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual shows the procedure for checking the
    front ride height...
1 On a smooth, level surface.
2 Measure from floor to center of the inner pivot of the lower control arm.
3 Measure from floor to the lower face of the lower steering knuckle boss.
4 The difference should be 2 1/2 inches (plus or minus 1/2 inch).
5 The left vs right ride height should be within 1/2 inch.

    Good luck
    Joe, 72 coupe

    Joe,

I have the manuals (service and overhaul). What page of which manual did you
    find this information on?

    Thanks,
    Charles

    Joe,

I found the info in my manual. I just need to make sure I understand what you
told me and what I see in the manual.

    Thanks,
    Charles

The overhaul manual shows how to take apart and repair components such as
    water pumps, starters, etc...
The service manual shows how to remove and replace components, and make
    adjustments.
