Ford Mustang: Tendencies of Car Design

Tendencies of Car Design
what are the tendencies of car design and what tendencies had been
present over time?
can you say it in a general way for each decade since the invention of
the Ford T model? I do not refer only to Ford models but overall...
let's say, what was the design tendency of the 90's? minimalism? of te
80's? 70's?
can anyone write it down for me please?
thanks in advance.

Would you like it tabbed? And corrolated? What about referances? A
Title page? Want us to do any other homework for you? How about
cleaning your room? We could come over and do that, too.

Re: Tendencies of Car Design
It does sound like a school assignment to me but I think it makes for some
decent discussion material.
Here's my general impression of the car designs:
earliest Fords -- cars for the working man. affordable and versatile.
nearing the 50's -- more flash and flare, more show than go.
60's -- wider selection to suit tastes. Idea that bigger is better really
takes root.
early 70's -- muscle cars, its as much go as show.
mid-late 70's -- oops running out of gas. try to keep the show and
technology can't keep the go.
early 80's -- I think this may be minimalist very boxy and 'K' carish.
(there were exceptions of course) Without the go there was not much need for
show.
late 80's to mid 90's -- Technology has caught up and the go has returned.
As for show, some went to sleek and sexy and aerodynamically friendly while
others went with the brutish muscle car look.
late 90's and early 00's -- Three definite groups I think. 1. Muscle car
types who want the brutish/mean look of the muscle cars (while still looking
for a little aerodynamics) more retro feel. 2. Import types (includes the
focus, neon, vw beetle and such) which I think is a more economical design
(maximize interior space while minimizing exterior size) 3. Luxury drivers
with larger cars for show and a great ride (Crown Vic, Lincoln, etc.)
Its hard to account for all the designs but this is my impression.
Anyone care to comment?

whole bunch of info, just if you had some references I could check out
to make my investigation.
Thanks to all, since I asked this I've got a lot of interesting info.
the more the better so if you have more info I could use it would be
great, thanks in advance.

Re: Tendencies of Car Design
You summed it up well, One ommision is the SUV truck thing in the early 90's that has
morphed into these "crossover" mini SUV's. Also the fact that most buyers are looking for
the SUV look yet live in the cities and 'burbs! StuK

Looks pretty good..I would add that in the early days there were to
levels of cars, the " working mans affordable car and the superrich
luxury car..the duesenburgs(sp) etc. And to the 90-s and 00-s I would
include something about the growth of the SUV fad, from the original
Blazer and Suburban of the 80s to the Exploder..err..Explorer to the
Expedition/Navigator all the way to the Hummer and then just recently
back down in scale and scope to the Escape, CR-V, Vue,
Aztec..shudder...
Oh yeah, and that early-mid 80's hideous monstrosity....the soccer
mom's mini-van
