    Tampa FL area dealers

Anyone live around the Tampa, FL area and have experience with the local
Chevy dealers? I am looking for the best one to take the Vette to.

    thanks

    Re: Tampa FL area dealers

I have had all my work done at the Corvette Shop on Dale Mabry.
Dan-Jennifer-Michael are very reputable and regular people. They know their
corvettes. I've never been disappointed other than with the cost of parts
and the difficulty making some repairs which can make it expensive. Not
    their fault.
I bought a 1980 10 years ago and it was a rebuilt, Dan told me to drive it
for a while and to bring it back if I have any problems. I had a couple of
little things go wrong, they fixed it immediately. Won my business. I have
taken my 91 there several times in the past 5 years and always will, even
    when I upgrade some day....
Speak to Mike first, he's real friendly. Bucs season ticket holder....

There's a vette specialist shop just off Dale Mabry called Classic
Corvettes. I took my 74 there before I bought it to check it over (can't
be too careful buying a 30-year-old car). Owner and (head?) mechanic
were both very knowledgeable. I took it back for some of the work after
I bought it - I've had no complaints about the work they did.
Guy has been in business for a very long time (couple of decades,
according to him - I'm sure its verifiable) and has always done nothing
but vettes. He knows them inside and out. From the looks of it, they do
a lot of restoration work in addition to repair work.
Here's an example of why I liked them: When I called to ask how much
they'd charge to give the car a good mechanical inspection before
purchase, owner told me $85. After I brought it in and they were
finished with it, I had only $40 or $50 in cash. I asked if he'd take
credit card, and he said don't worry about it and took the cash - said
he'd rather have my business after I owned one.

BTW, he didn't have much good to say about The Corvette Shop (mentioned
by another person in response to your message) - similar to what I heard
from a Vette appraiser I talked to when I was shopping around.

Here's a rundown of what Classic Corvettes did for me and what they
charged, to give you an idea:

    Replace Pinion Seal Assbly: $225
Replace Read Tranny Seal: $ 20
Replace Pinion Subber [sic] $ 40
    Replace Tranny mount $ 50
Repair Door Handle assembly $ 65
Change Tranny & Diff. oil $125

    Classic Corvettes
    3810 West Osborne
    Tampa, FL 33614
    (813) 876-6438

    Hope this helps,
    Eric
