'Super-chipping' Accord 2.0 LSi auto... Is it worth it??

    Hi guys,

I thought about supercharging my 1999 2.0 LSi Accord (UK) but it's pretty
costly, so I thought about super-chipping it instead. Would this increase
the power/performance etc? What are the pros and cons? Any help on this
    would be appreciated.

    Hi,
If you mean dropping in an aftermarket super chip in the engine
management computer, don't expect huge gains. If you want real performance
increases, try replacing the stock air intake tube and filter with a
performance set up. Also try a free flowing exhaust system. I've tried chips
in a couple different vehicles and the performance gains were minimal, and in
some cases nothing at all other then changing shift points on an automatic
    transmission.
If you buy one, see if you can return it if the power gains
advertised do not meet with your expectations.
    B.B.

Thanks. I am new to this sort of thing, so have you any recommendations as
to makes and models of air intakes, exhaust systems etc.? There is a
Powerflo garage near my home. Ever heard of these guys? Any good?

I've been told it will cost about £350-£450 to 'super-chip' my car, but if
the gains (if any) are minimal I may as well spend the money on better
intake and exhaust systems. I don't mind losing 3-4 mpg if the performance
gains are worth it. The car feels a bit sluggish at the moment, but I
suppose it's a balance between performance and economy?

    Cheers

I don't recommend making any changes to your system unless you are a
mechanic or have a close friend that is a mechanic. You can do damage to
your engine and engine related systems if you do things incorrectly. For
example, my Honda has something called a "speed limit controll" built into
the computer that prevents my vehicle from going over 130 mph. I could
easily have my mechanic reset it to my vehicle can go 140 mph. I won't
have any mechanic do this since I found out that the head gasket might go
out if I go 140 mph. I have learned to be content with going only 130 mph.

Thanks for the input Bill. I have decided not to chip the car, but will look
into intake and exhaust systems as per the advice of another poster.

The car is sluggish and I wouldn't mind a bit more pep. Nothing crazy
    though. Any thoughts, Bill?
