    starting problems 525TDS

I have a 525TDS Touring from 1993 with 317000km.. Never gave any problem,
but recently I am having trouble starting the car. When I turn the key
everything seems to work with the engine, but it wonīt start after trying
for about 5 minutes it will start and then teh problems are over till the
next time I have to start the engine. However the problem only appears with
a cold engine. When I start itīs just like the engine gets no fuel or there
is air in the fuelpipes. Does this problem rings a bell to someone? Please
    advise.

I've heard they don't like the fuel tank to be run too low.

I had a similar problem on my (now sold ) 525 TDS SE. Vary hrd to
start and did not pull very cleanly. On that it was the auxilliary
fuel oump situated in the tank. Quite a simple job to replace, not
that I did it myself, and cost about Ģ100.

Sounds exactly like a bursted fuse in the pre-heating system (glow plugs or
similar). Is there an indicator light showing after switching the 'ignition'
on? (usually a coil on yellow background). If this light fails to light up
it would indicate a faulty pre-heating system.

    Have you checked the glow-plugs?
