[SPOILER] Some of you missed a great race...
Excerpted from http://www.speedtv.com/articles/formulaone/auto/16445/
"Alonso made his second stop on the 41st lap, but Schumacher and
Button stayed on track, the German already glued to the Briton’s
gearbox.
Six laps later, Schuey got tired of waiting for Jenson to pit. As the
BAR driver hesitated to lap Mark Webber’s Williams, Schumacher dove
into his inside at the Acqua Minerale chicane to gain the Briton’s
position.
Two laps later, after the Ferrarti star made his second stop, the gap
to Alonso’s Renault was of just 1.3 seconds.
For the next 13 laps to the checkered flag, speaking of numerical
differences became pointless, as Schumacher’s superior Bridgestones
allowed him to be all over Alonso, trying to find a breach through
Imola’s tricky turns.
Alonso, however, made the best of the opportunity of showing his nerve
under pressure. The Spaniard did not put a wheel wrong
[Not quite true: Alonso went wide at Acque Minerali (3 to go?) and
damned near lost the position, the lead, and the race.]
to edge Schumacher by just 0.2sec at the finish line. Button soldiered
on to third, another 10.4 seconds further back, with Wurz scoring a
fine fourth place on his first race since the 2000 season.
Wurz shook off the rust with a strong fourth-place finish (LAT Photo)
Takuma Sato completed the top five, and Jacques Villeneuve snatched a
much-needed sixth-place finish for Sauber. The Toyota duo of Trulli
and Ralf Schumacher completed the points-scorers.
The Renault ace now heads for his home GP at Barcelona in two weeks’s
time with twice as many points as his closest chaser in the
championship standings (36 vs. Trulli’s 18). But most importantly,
Alonso has built a 26-point edge over Schumacher – an advantage he may
fully need if Ferrari’s Imola pace carries on for the rest of the F1
season...

I thought it was a great race. That Schumi move on Button was
spectacular, a straight line through a chicane pretty much. But the
announcing was awful. Derek Daly's liltingly-accented bullshit was bad
enough, but that Rasheen guy was gaggable. He sounded like a
young-and-still-stupid Greg Gumble.
I'll probably watch it again Friday just to check out the SPEED race call.
Surprised that Villenueve didn't fold. Maybe there's some life in him
after all.
I couldn't really tell if Fisichella's bust-up was due to driver error
or part failure. Could you?

Re-reading your New Testament, are you?
Sort of looked like the front wheels were not turning as he steered,
but I'd want another look, could've been just an optical distortion.

We suffered worse in the UK! ITV decided to go to a commercial break on lap
three and came back just as the last lap began! Absolutely crazy! One of the
most exciting races in years and we have to watch a Ford advert!

Yes. Missing almost 59 laps made it very difficult to follow the action.
Just shows the power Ford has these days - an advert running for over
an hour...
....of course what my fellow countryman meant was that it went to a break
with three laps to go. I'm sure I was not alone in shouting obscenities at
the
TV. The adverts went on for so long I wondered for a moment if we were
going to cut back to the post race interviews.
As you colonials would say 'un-fucking-believable'!
Other than that - best race I've seen in years. Alonso proved to be as
cool as a cucumber that has been in the refriderator for several months
(additional cooling provided by the air passing over those out-sized
eyebrows) whilst Schuey attacked with real (as opposed to carefully
calculated) aggression.
Nice.
With the 2005 car, I do believe that the dancing donkey is about to
open a can of whoop-ass.

I like "refriderator". I'm sticking with it.

Oops! Yeah, thats what I meant! Just got a bit too irate!
Just as I thought we were about to begin another 20 years without a
championship Schuey seemed to be possessed with the spirit of Gilles and
stormed the field! Fantastic! All credit to Alonso as well. Few could take
that kind of pressure and not crack. I think he's definitely in the front of
the queue to take Schuey's crown.

Greetings! I was forced to trade the Prancing Horse in for a Pony car a
few yrs ago. I miss the sight and sounds of the 355, but it's hard to
argue with the power and control of the current race car and Ford's
support is head, shoulders and torso above that of the Factory in
Maranello. I'm running an '03 Mustang in World Challenge these days.
Still struggling near the back of the pack, but expecting great things
this season! If we ever get started. <g>
Thanx for asking.
