tubes and screw the tires on - else they'll spin on the rims - that's
    even worse on your variation

What are you using for rear shocks? Stock? Try some adjustable shocks, and
turn up on the compression setting, and you will see some air time! ;-) A
friend of mine just installed double adjustables at all 4 corners, from
Chassis Engineering, and after turning up the compression side on the rears,
all of his times improved. We found out after viewing video of the car
launching, that he was loosing some time due chassis movement during the
launch. By increasing the compression in the shocks, it eliminated that and
    the car ran much faster.

Nothing like the feel of a hard launching car is there? ;-) Try it in a car
that has an aluminum seat with about a 1/2" thick cover for padding. It can
down right hurt at times! But a good kind of hurt, which I'm sure you know
    what I mean. ;-)

    Thanks for the advice.
I use Lakewwod 50/50 shocks and 70/30 struts along with HPM Mega-bite
JRs in the rear so I am hoping for at least a 1.8 60 ft time. I have
also welded the torque boxes, welded in subframe connectors and put a
strut brace on it. My main concern is the old T5 (The car is a 1987
5.0 Convertible GT). I will probably get kicked off the track since I
should run at least a low 13 and do not have a cage (yet).

They shouldn't bug you about a cage until you run an 11.99 or something
like that. I have an 87 coupe with the stock T5...they take a kickin' and
keep on tickin. I have a few 1.68 60'ft's but I did blast an axle pretty
    bad.
It took a few hours to get all the chunks out of the pumpkin...a cheap easy
fix though. I use 15" rims with 28x11.5 ET Streets with rim bolts & tubes.
I can launch at 5500 if the traction is good and run a 12.9 @ 104. I use
skinnys up front and that really helps. I can lift the wheels up a few
    inches.
The kicker is the motor is a bone stock, short-belted speed density 5.0

My car is a convertible and running under 14 requires a 6 pt. ... but
to date I have not had an issue.
Good to hear your T5 can handle a 1.68 !
