Should I buy Extended Warranty for Garmin 60 CSX?
Since this unit (SiRF) is new for Garmin, I was wondering if I should
buy extended warranty for this unit, say, from Mack in the USA.
Anyone have any opinions?
Thanks

Firstly only consider it when it gets close to you statutory 1 year
warranty is coming to an end. Personally I would never bother with
extended warranties as they are so expensive. I have rarely bought
anything that has packed up within five years and I would prefer to keep
the money I would have spent on extended warranties and use it to buy a
new model if my old one snuffs it. If I was to add up all the money I
could have spent on extended warranties over all these years I would be
winning hands down even if all my gadgets packed up at the same time.
However, it's up to you whether you want to pay through the nose for your
peace of mind.

On some things It's good, others not so good. Take my camcorder. 3 yrs for
99.00 Battery is 70.00 alone. They also do free cleanings every year for
free. The cleaning alone is 45.00
If nothing happens to it, the cleaning alone more then pays for it.
Things like home cordless phones that cost 40.00 and then add 20.00 more for
the service plan is not a good idea. By the time the phone needs to be
replaced, you can buy a new and better one for about half the price you
stated with.

Like insurance, extended warranties are legalized gambling, but the odds
are much greater in favor of the warranty seller. Some discount sellers
of appliances like TVs make more money on the warranties than on the
merchandise itself. But people swarm to the casinos and lotteries, so
there's no doubt they like to gamble even when the odds are badly
against them. Do you? If so, go for it. You pays your money and makes
your choice.

All insurance companies, on average, make a profit. Ergo only insure for
one-off events that you couldn't recover from (house burning down,
whatever). Or if you are a massively unlucky person. This goes for
everything from contents insurance to health insurance to unemployment
insurance, IMO.

It's often far cheaper to add the item onto your home insurance, something
many people forget. It may already be covered. Home insurance also often
covers items used away from home. Best bet is always to check with your
broker, they'd probably laugh at the extended warranty and offer you
something better at half the price.

While we sell extended warranties for GPS's (and other electronics) I
would never recommend them. We only sell them because some customers insist
on purchasing one.

Re: Should I buy Extended Warranty for Garmin 60 CSX?
I know people who've used the extended warrantee to upgrade their
camera when their unit "accidentally" got dropped after it was out of
manufacturor but still under extended warrantee. The manufacturor
replaced it with the next model up.. but of course that would be
wrong
