"security"light on
my 94 grand prix has the feature of the chip in the key and a "security"
light on the dash that has something to do with the set up of this system.as
of lately the security light has been comming on a few minutes after the car
has been started and driven and will go off shortly, there has a few times
that the car would not start then everything was fine again. are these
symptoms tied together????

Re:
does your keychain have alot of keys, etc. on it? If it does its possible thats your problem. The weight of the keys is not letting the chip make contact.

Re:
no. i only have the ignition, trunk and remote opener that comes with the car
on it. thanks for the reply

I have the same exact problem!!! My car has major starting issues.
It's not the starter either. I think it's related to the "Security"
light coming on also. I could get a replacement key made up to see if
that does the trick. I never thought that. I'm confused just like you
are. By the way, I have a '95 Grand Prix 3.1L. I only have the
ignition, trunk, house, and work keys on my ring.

Re? re what?
In article <94.170.86>,
com says...
No idea what you are replying to but the pass lock will alow a car to
run for 3 minutes. Thats so when you're going down the road the car just
doesnt die every time you hit a bump causing your keys to shift out of
contact. So that can be ruled out.

Re: "security"light on
It's the passlock featuer in the key, if it's happening frequently,
I'd get a dealer to look at it, or check with a mobile car starter
shop because there are Passlock bypass kits that will work with your
car. I thikn they're about $40.
BTW, it's not a chip, there's a dent in the key at a certain spot. I
thin GM could get around this by using round keys and a starter
button. But then again.. what do I know?
