Roadmate 700 Version 5 disc
Hello there some of you might have already read my other post about my
troubles with upgrading my roadmate 700 with the new version 5
fireware. I know for sure that it is the disc that is giving me all the
trouble with not being able to complete the upgrade. I've called
support several times with no luck they have told me I need to send
them the whole unit+disc and they will install it for me but they will
not send me a new disc and I really dont feel like sending my whole
unit in if I dont have too. So my question to all of you is if there is
anyone out there that would be willing to send me a copy of the version
5 upgrade? I've got the unlock code for my unit so I dont think there
would be any trouble with using another disk. Thanks for any help.

A disk from someone else will not work. When you order the disk they put
the unlock code specific to your unit on the disk.

I've been wrong before but, unless you have inside information to the
contrary, I'd be willing to bet that all the V5 disks are identical.
The installation program can read the serial number from the RM unit and,
using a secret algorithm, derive an unlock code that is valid for that RM
unit only. If the unlock code that you enter doesn't match the one derived
by the installation program you can't install the product. You can't figure
out the right unlock code unless you pay for it because you don't know the
secret algorithm.
I see no reason to have to cut separate DVDs for each RM unit.

My daughter and I both have Magellan 760. There was a distinct disk
for each unit that was serial number dependant. This was this past
summer shortly after the release.

Thanks for responding Greasy.
I'm curious about this issue because a couple of previous posters have asked
to borrow RM upgrade disks but none have reported either success or failure
in either obtaining a disk or installing using it.
Are you sure you aren't talking about the "Authorization Code" (aka the
unlock code)? This isn't the same as the serial number. I know each RM unit
gets a different V5 unlock code but, as I tried to explain above, that
doesn't
mean that either the serial number or the unlock code has to be stored on
the disk.
My Software Update Version 5 DVD has no markings I can see that indicate it
is specifically cut for my RM unit.
The front of the DVD has the part number (P/N 500207) and the back has
"DW-16-242-5064 500207 MRM7XXV5 NA MAPS DVD" and in a smaller font on the
clear portion of the DVD "IFPI QQ68". None of these codes even remotely
resemble either my RM serial number or my V5 Authorization Code.
If all of the above markings are identical for my disk, yours and your
daughter's I'd say the disks are almost certainly identical. If they differ
then I'm not so sure.

Jerry,
I'm normally a well organized computer type person but for the life of
me I can't find my Magellan package. I'm saving this message until
after the holidays and hopefully finding an intelligent response to
the various numbers shown above!
Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year to you and yours.
