    Roadmate 700 question (s)

    Hello,
My dad has a roadmate 700 for about 2 years now.
It seems lately it takes a very longggggg time to locate itself when it get
    powered up.
Antenna is up, but the little sat symbol just turns and turns.
It will locate it self after 20 minutes or so.
So is there anything I can do to make it find it self quicker?

How do I find out if the firmware version on his unit.

Would a firmware flash update to it make it quicker to locate it self?

    TIA,
    Dave-

It's been my experience since I have had a 700 with and without the update
that this unit is extremely variable about how long it takes to locate
itself. Sometimes it will do it before I get out of the driveway and
sometimes it will take 5 to 20 minutes. I have no idea what the criteria
    is.

I agree. On thick cloudy days it takes longer to lock in. Also, if I'm
close to the house it can block signals. Make sure the antenna is pushed
all the way in. You could also try re-initializing the GPS. That could
    take up to 30 min.

    Called Magellan.

Yes a rebooted the GPS it took 30 minutes and it seems to work great.
I wrote down the instructions for the next time.

The service rep even called back, ( 3 hours later ) to make sure it was
    working.
Asked about the color scheme on the direction, seems it has something to do
    with sat being used.

    Thanks for the help all,

    Dave-

I was asked to put in the reboot sequence.

    1- power unit
    2- select user
    3- option ( key on right )
    4- configuration
5-scroll down to Diagnostics- click it
6- scroll down to initialize GPS- click it
    7- click yes
8- follow instructions for your location.
    9- back out
10 let it run until the direction box becomes green or blue

Thats the best for what I remember.
