    Reving high at cold start

    Hello again,

Just curious, why would my 95 LS 2.2L auto rev high at intial startup when
cold? Only started happening now that its cold outside. Does it when I
leave for work in the am and leave for home in the pm, both times are cold.
I dont touch the gas, just turn the key to acc for a couple seconds then
start, engine will rev up to 3k rpm until I hit the gas, then after a couple
seconds it goes to a "normal" cold-start rpm of 1500.
I'm just concerned about having the rpms that high when it first starts with
    cold oil, etc.

This is the electonic fuel injections equivalent of a choke. The mixture
and idle speed are richened to smoothe the engine until it reaches operating
    temps.

normal. it needs slightly richer mixture when cold.

Not THAT high. Try checking the TPS sensor, or the coolant sensor. Get a
check engine light with it yet?

I confirm IT IS too high.
Idle on my Legacy nerever goes higher than 1500 rpm at startup
even on the coldest mornings. And they are often really
    cold here in Montreal.

My 2000 Forester on a 50 degree F morning revs to ~1800 rpm and a tap on the
peddle drops it to ~1000. My old Saab and Jeep did about the same. I see no
problem IF you brother to tap and the rpm drops to 8-1100 rpm. eddie
