Replacing an ATV with a CJ - Tire Pressure Question

I'm coming to the conclusion that I can buy a used CJ instead of
trailering an ATV to where I want to ride, unloading it, loading it,
etc. etc. Not to mention dealing with the weather. And the CJ will go
just about anywhere an ATV will go.

However, I do a LOT of riding on washboard and/or rough roads. I
really like the fact the ATV is riding on only 3-4 pounds of pressure
on the tires- it really smooths out the bumps.

I'm guessing I can do the same with the CJ, but are there tires that
are made to do this with? I will be driving long distances on the
highway (100+ miles) to get to where I'm going. I'll be sticking to
dirt roads, very little will be truly "off-road." What I'm worried
about is if I'll be damaging the tires by riding on them with low air
pressure, only to pump them back up again when I get back on the
    hiway.

Anyone have any experience with this? I appreciate your comments.

    Well,

    I take my 35" MTR's down to a minimum of 8 -10 lbs, and usually I'm at 15
lbs.. Anything less I would want beadlocks. Driving a Jeep on
washboard/rough roads will have to be at a SLOW speed, not like your ATV. I
don't suggest driving long distance with low tires. I have an air pump to
air up the tires. I suppose if you used bead locks you could air down to 4
lbs, but I wouldn't do it. And you can't go places with a Jeep that your
    ATV can go.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not in love with 4 lbs of air pressure- I'm
just wondering if I can take it down enough to compensate and smooth
    out the ride a bit.

You say you go down to 8-10 lbs- do you find that to be reasonable as
far as keeping the shaking from washboard roads down to a minimum?

On the ATV, I only go about 15 or 20 mph- when you say "slow" is that
what you mean, or will I have to limit my speed even more?

Yes, you should be able to "smooth " out the ride with lower pressure.

    Yes

I meant about 15 to 20 on washboard roads, but not tore up roads.

You should be fine on the roads you describe. Try to get someone to take
    you in a Jeep.
