BMW: Removing the Dealer "Badge"

Removing the Dealer "Badge"
What is the best way to remove the dealer advertising badge on the trunk of
the car without scratching the car all up? I just got a 97 M3 and really
don't want it there.
Thanks,
Kyle

That was about a BMW badge (318 > M3 badge), not a dealer "advertise on your
car" badge....although the process may be the same.

Re: Removing the Dealer "Badge"
Take it back the dealer and tell him to remove it. You bought a car not a
free advertising board for the dealer. If he can't then remove it them claim
from him the cost of repair as he's damaged your car. A sticker in the back
window if pretty common in the UK but some are sticking stuff to the body
work and I think thats out of order.

Send the dealer a bill for advertising. $50 a day should bring results - either
an offer to remove it or $50 a day!
Threaten with legal action if a, he don't pay or b, if he don't remove it!

Hell, I think MOST cars have "body stickers" that around here... Some

Not me, though. I tell those a-holes that I won't accept the car if
it's got a sticker on it.

I've seen a few new cars around in the UK with a chrome raised badge on the
boot beside the model name with the dealer logo on it too. Peoples Ford
comes to mind as the biggest sinner. Really spoils the look even on a Ford
!!!!
I would email the Beastie Boys and ask them to do a concert tour and wear
the offending badge as they did with the VW badge. Wait for them to air the
concert, park the car somewhere in the middle of a big city, and some kid
will remove the badge to put round his kneck. Problem solved.
Or you might try a heat gun on a low setting, this heats up the glue enough
to allow you to pull off the badge without damage to the paintwork, and any
remaining glue left on the paintwork can be removed with brake fluid. Just
kidding, DO NOT use brake fluid it will take the paint off !!!!, use acetone
and a cotton cloth and mebbe a fingernail. Acetone can be found on your
wifes/girlfriends dresser if she uses nail varnish remover. Or you can wait
for 18 years for the badge to fall off through degradation of the glue used.
Thats how long it took my badge on my Volvo to fall off, with a little help
from my six year old son.

Thanks Stuart! The heatgun worked wonders. I actually used my wife's hair
dryer when she went to work. Nail polish remover took off the rest of the
goo quite nicely.
