Re: red button
wow!! the only reason I didn't try it was that I thought it might be the
ejector seat and I didn't know which side would eject.

Re: red button
Hehe! My friend had all the same thoughts with his 1994 Curren.
With the ignition in LOCK the shifter should also be locked - holding the
button allows it to be shifted with the ignition in LOCK.
Or as far as we could gather! :-)

That is the passenger eject button.
Used exclusively when transporting the mother-in-law to her hairdresser.

Re: red button
Thanks everyone for the info, it was spot on.
Unfortunately the mother in law was ejected to a much higher altitude many
years ago, though her influence seems strangley undiminished; if not
positivily enhanced.
Whilst on the subject of buttons there is one above the red button marked
ECT with normal and pwr settings. I've assumed this was somthing todo with
the gear ratios but now I'm not so certain, especially as ECT could be the
first letters of ectoplasm of ghostbusters fame. I now tremble at the
thought of activating it in case I'm plunged into a parallel universe full
of Fords, Kias and (god forbid) long ejected mother in laws. Is it safe to
operate this button or should I abstain and not risk violating the cosmic
infrastructure.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Shows you how much Japanese I can read. :-) We had a play with it, but he
might just have had his foot on the brake in fear of being thrown from the
car when we were moving it...
