Favourite quote of mine: "What's the point in being grown up if you
    can't be childish sometimes!"

As to the whole bolt-on-goodies thing - never seems to do much on most
cars, let alone BMs which really seem to be designed with performance in
    mind.

AARP? AARP!! What's that got to do with cars?

Veering wildly off topic here, the answer is, it's *just* 'AARP'.
They changed the name a year or so ago from the "American Association
of Retired Persons" to simply "AARP" to more accurately reflect the
growing number of 'Baby Boomer' Old Farts like me who are allowed to
join at age 50 but who are a decade or two away from any serious
    consideration of retirement.

What's it got to do with cars? You never heard of '55 Alive'? It's
the Old Farts' version of driver school. I guess they teach you how
to see *through* the steering wheel and slide your seat up close
enough to guaran-damn-TEE you won't survive anything over a 5 mph bump
when your 'personal explosive' goes off. I'd kinda like to infiltrate
the program as an instructor and teach 'em how to do handbrake turns
and how power oversteer works ... ;^)

    Dumb new guy question,
I have an 86 325ES and I put the K&N Cone on it. It didn't make much
differnce but it was a $20 mod from E-Bay. I also got the AC Chip on
Ebay and noticed a huge increase. With a new chip, doesn't that work
better with the K&N style intakes or is it best to still leave the
intake alone with a performance chip?
    The reason I ask is I also just got a 98 328i. The 325 is now a
deadicated autocrosser but I'd still like just a few mods on the 98,
which is my new daily. Previous to the influx of BMWs I was a H2O VW
enthusiast and the K&N seemed to really make a difference (5-10 HP), but
you make asound aurgument about the intake being tuned from the factory.
