    The *Really* Bad News...

    1) We have to wait three weeks for the next F1 race.

    2) The race we'll be waiting for is Hungary.

    <rhetorical>
They dropped Spa and kept Hungary. Who makes these decisions, anyway?

    Too right!

Wonder if the minor modifications they did to the circuit will help any?
    Nah, that's wishful thinking.

Are we on the new Hungary this year or don't the changes come online until
    next year?
There's supposed to be more of an overtaking spot being created compared to
    the past.

I usually cringe when I hear that they've made "minor modifications"
to a track. That's been a code word for "tear out the track's heart and
    soul."

But Hungary might be the exception. I don't think anything they'd do
to that track could damage it further!

I don't know for sure, but I thought that they'd be racing on the
modified track. I sure hope that it's an improvement.

It's also a somewhat longer straight going into the
tight righthander. Although I'm not sure that any
    of this will help.

Sure it will. The corners after the chicane are conducive
to letting a trailing driver get close, and then with a
pure straight, not a bend like that before the hairpin at
Hockenheim, it will let drivers approach that corner side
    by side.

The right-hander could be a prime passing point, and the
turns before the start-finish straight might let a driver
stay close after a failed passing attempt, letting him
attack again at the new hairpin.

Going by memory only, the straight will be on flat ground,
and then drop down as they turn right for a double hairpin
before the pit lane entrance. Remember how it was before,
a right-left as it went downhill? I doubt they'd fill in
that large depression; if memory serves, the new straight
ends where the seats are or used to be, on flat ground.

You never know how much small changes can improve things.
Let's give it a chance before passing judgement.
