Re: Question about mitsubishi 3000 gt 1992
Which model is it? I have a '92 3000GT VR4...the twin turbo, all-wheel-drive
model. I get about 26MPG on the highway. These are good cars if you are a
car guy but if you lack brains or cash these can get you into debt fast. I
wouldn't own anything else.

Re: Question about mitsubishi 3000 gt 1992
There are three basic engine models:
3.0L V6 SOHC, 175 HP, FWD
3.0L V6 DOHC, 200-220 HP, FWD
3.0L V6 DOHC Twin Turbo, 300-320 HP, AWD
I think the automatic transmission is only available with the first two. I
had a '93 Dodge Stealth DOHC with a 5-speed and got about 25 MPG rural
driving (I don't have a lead foot). Probably the weakest link on these cars
is the transmission, but like everything else can be rebuilt. There are tons
of parts available for these cars as this 3.0L V6 was used in a lot of
Mitsubishi and Dodge vehicles.

Re: Question about mitsubishi 3000 gt 1992
They used a Chrysler manufactured transmission. They can last if you do
regular maintenance which basically means changing the fluid and filter
every 30K miles and absolutely positively using only the correct fluid
without additives. My 1991 3000GT SL has 128K original miles and the trans
(knock on wood) is smooth as silk. I am the second owner and know the first
only changed the fluid once at about 80K miles before I got the car. When I
dropped the pan it was full of sludge and badly needed a good cleaning.
3.0L, especially early model years also has head/valve seal problems
causing oil consumption and a lot of noise until it warms up. Block and
lower engine are pretty solid though. This is definitely not a car for
anyone who can't afford the maintenance or is not mechanically inclined.
