Unless you've also put in an aftermarket steering rack, the fluid will likely
damage the rack's seals. This is the principle problem with non-Honda power
steering fluid, i.e., over time it causes the racks to leak which then need to
be rebuilt. Depending on your situation, you may want to take it back to him
and have him flush out the system and put in Honda's fluid.

Question about honda power steeing fluid

I have an 87 Honda Accord. A mechanic changed the power steering pump for me
before, and I think he also told me that he used some aftermarket rebuilt
power steering pump and that it'd be ok to use a non-Honda power steering
fluid since it's not a Honda power steering pump

What do you guys make of this? Would it be okay to put Honda power steering
fluid into the reservoir even though he told me this? Would it hurt anything?
The only thing I see printed on the power steering pump is "remanufactured AT
    A3".

    Thanks.
