Thats better than I was able to do before going to RoadRunner. Hope it stays
that way for you. If you ever get the opportunity, get broadband. It's a world
of difference. That 30 Meg download is less than 2 minutes.

AOL's admins have the right to limit your connection at any time you are
sucking down major bandwidth. In this case, 126megs on a dial up router
(theirs) is enough bandwidth for them to sit up and take notice. By
slowing down your connection, they are in fact limiting the amount of
system resources that you are using up...................

I figured they somehow played a role in it. What gets me is that the years I
have been online (all dialup), I have never come close to downloading at 23
kbs. I have hit 4 and 5 kbs on ocassion, but never that much till today. It
just got me questioning how much I really know about modems and the AOL
service. My areas not scheduled to get broadband till 2005 at the earliest, at
    least by BellSouth.

MOst people dont like satellite data.. (hearsay, PLUS what I know from years
    in the biz)

If the fastest you can connect at is 26,4 you are going to be lucky to be
able to get DSL at all.. unless they out in neighborhood repeaters.

Connect speed is a function of distance from the phone co switch, the
condition of house wiring and condition of area witring plant.

If your neighbor connects at a higher speed than you can, suggest running a
new CAT-3 from the demarcation box outside to your computer. BUT.. your old
wiring will still affect the signal quality. Ask phone company for
conditioning coils for the OLD line connection.. this will isolate the losses
    from the old Red/Green wires.

Not to mention that going through AOL is going to be slower. It
works well as a proxy for my cable connection though...

    Chad,

Two-way satellite is very unrealiable, but one-way (download) satellite is
very reliable. I work for an ISP and I can tell you some information on the
satellite system if you wish. I just do not want to post an unsoliciated
message in the newsgroup. If you would like more information on the
    satellite just email me.
