OT At Ford Quality is job ZERO!
U.S. investigates side air bags on Ford Town Cars
Reuters / August 28, 2003
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The government has opened an investigation of
complaints that side air bags on some Ford Motor Co. Lincoln Town Cars
deploy inadvertently.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it had
received 138 complaints that air bags on 2001-2003 Town Cars deployed
while the car was moving or after the vehicle ran over a pothole,
gravel or debris.
Inspections by dealerships or Ford found either minor undercarriage
damage or no evidence of impact.

An interesting thing about Ford is that they got caught up in the
manic-HR-fad-of-the-month idiocy a few years ago, trying to emulate
GE's draconian professional employee performance appraisal system, and
as a result, Ford apparently lost much of their best & more senior
engineering talent. Ford wasn't exactly in a position to lose
engineering talent to begin with, and you can bet that their vehicles
won't improve anytime soon, now that they have even fewer experienced
engineers remaining.
Ford eventually scrapped their "ABC Ranking" professional employee
evaluation system, partly as a result of losing too many experienced
engineers due to the system low-ranking them and forcing them out (!),
and partly to restore morale and stop the employee lawsuits.
Ya think "Quality is Job 1" now ??? <BG>

Gawd I used to hate the evaluation process in the big corporations I

There is truth to the old 80/20 rule, but I found that the 80 percent
really did a good job if managed correctly.
Thank god I'm my own boss now. I am either an A or a C....and nobody
else knows or cares <g>.
Looks like Ford has shot itself in the foot....again.
Another good reason to not ever buy a Ford...
