Jeep: Old body XJ?

Old body XJ?
I'm looking at 99-01 XJ jeeps with the old body. Is there anything I should
look for? Does anyone have anything great or terrible to say about these
rigs? I'm looking at 4X4 4.0L models only...

Re: Old body XJ?
The only thing that comes to my mind is the difference in front axles. The
99 has a high pinion D30 while the 00 and 01 have a low pinion. If it's
going to be a daily driver, it's not an issue.

Re: Old body XJ?
Don't you mean "new" body? 97-01 has the rounder corners, full front
door windows, plastic gas tank, and metal rear lift door, while the 96
and older XJ's has the fiberglass rear lift door, metal gas tank,
front door vent windows, and edges were more noticable. I don't know
what year (89-90 time frame) they went from 4 head lights to 2.
Majority of the above is a comparison of my 92XJ, and 97XJ. As with
any motor vehicle, the manufacturer makes both subtle
and major changes from model to model, and even during the production
year of a model. Also check out the front rotors if you live in an
area that salts roads during the winter, as there have been recalls
for rotor seperation due to road salt.
Hope this helps.
