    oil pressure problem??

i was driving my 2000 jgc tonight, noticed the oil pressue gauge was pegging
80, normally is around 60 at highway speeds. Slowing down helped, but even
at idle it never got below 50 or so. After i parked, i noticed a slight
odor of rubber burning coming from under the hood. The only thing i have
done recently is replace a burned out driver side brake light. The high
brake light is also burned out, have not replaced it yet. Also, no warning
lights or messages have come on associated with oil pressure or burned out
lights. Any ideas on what the prob is? Thanks

I can think of two possibilities:

    1. The "pigtail" (wire) to the oil pressure sending unit is shorted
    to ground ("grounded out").
    2. The sending unit itself is bad.

about 3000 miles, but oil level itself is right on the mark.

thanks, i was leaning toward just replacing the sending unit and see what
    happens.
