Oil drips from timing belt. 91 Lexus es250
Oil drips when coming to a stop and parked (with
a drip per 15 minutes.) I had the valve cover gaskets
and grommets replaced with no luck.
They appear to coming from the timing belt cover and
above the crankshaft and for unknown reasons the
timing belt seems dry visible thru a hole. It's wet enough
to seep onto the exhaust manifold doing a nasty
smell. Any thought as to where I should be looking?
Thanks

I'd guess your cam seals are leaking. Time to pull the timing covers and
have a look.

Camshaft seals shot, crankshaft seal shot. Two distinct possibilities.

That's such a slow rate of leaking that I don't know whether "a look"
would tell you a whole lot. I had a car leaking a quart in 20 miles,
and in took for-!@#$%^&-ever to locate it -- it was the crankshaft,
and it only leaked out when the RPMs were above 2500.
I couldn't actually see where it was coming from, but I could feel
tiny droplets being flung in the area of the crankshaft.
Good luck!

This level of leakage IS cause sufficient to take corrective
measures. Cam belts don't take well to being "oiled" and ... it is
VERY un-Lexus-like to leak oil. (Ahem!) People might mistake your
Lexus for some old Ford, judging by the oil puddles. ;-)

My point is that he might not be able to pinpoint the source
of the leak (1 drop every 15 minutes--if you can call that a leak--LOL)
simply by looking; I had a monster leak, and even after completely
de-greasing the engine (twice) could not tell where it was coming from.
Oil would be freaking *everywhere* within a few miles.
I finally narrowed it down to the front-case area, but couldn't tell
whether it was the front case gasket, the camshaft seal, or the
crankshaft seal. For a while I was sure it was the front of the oil pan.
Having brand-new, clear oil in the system certainly didn't help;
dark black would have been much better.
Next time I will use UV dye to pinpoint any leaks!

Clearly YOUR acceptance for oil -leaks- is less stringent than an old
Lexus owner should have to endure. (Hmmph!)

Dare I say...pardon me if I offended the distinguished sensibilities of
the Lexus owner for daring to suggest that he would consider ANY leakage
of oil to be deemed acceptable -- I was merely suggesting that the
somewhat less-than devastating and dramatic leakage (a single drop in 15
minutes) might not be the easiest thing to trace. ;-)
