    Oil Again

I have been lurking in the group for a few months and I don't recall seeing
this oil question. If it has been asked and answered I must have missed it
and apologize in advance. I bought my first Mustang this year (2003 GT) and
I have about 1500 miles on it. I want to change the oil and filter is it
OK to use a synthetic now or should I stay with the Dino oil for a while?
Thanks for your help, I love the newsgroup and have learned a lot from you
    folks about Mustangs, thanks again.

Go ahead and change to synthetic if you want. I ran dino for ~1000 miles in
    mine before I switched.

A good synthetic will do marvels for your engine now and it's fine to use in
new engines. Ford specifies 5W-20 for all engines post 1999/2000. Don't get
hung up on the grade...I use 5W-30 in my 4.6 2002 F150...and I will be
switching to 0W-30 from Amsoil. Few "real" synthetics have 5W-20 avaliable.
The good ones in my book, (I may get flamed for this...) are...

    Amsoil...
    Redline...
Royal Purple...(although I have some questionning about quality assurance..)
    Mobil 1

There are others, as long as they are either Ester or PAO based. Stay away
from the hydro cracked base stock such as the castrol, quaker and other semi
synthetic. I would even stay away from the 7500 series offered by Amsoil as
they are formulated from a hydro cracked base...I feel these are not worth
    their premium price...

    2 cents...

    Re: Oil Again

Well, this makes twice I've seen the brand names Redline and Royal Purple.
Seem they make Antifreeze/coolant and motor oil. The only name mentioned
that I do know about is Mobil 1. Not sure if I'd try something new in my car
yet, so I'm going to vote for Mobil 1 as the full synth oil that should be
used now the engine is broken in.
