Off topic . Do u own a SONY Home Theatre Surround System ?

Im about ready to buy this one at Circuit City for $474 . Its a 500
watt total unit, and comes with a CD,DVD, VCR, and am/fm radio . Ill get
a seperate turntable to plug into it.

If you have a Sony, do u like it and has it been reliable.?

Sony is good for TVs & stuff, but not the very best when it comes to
stereos. What you're looking at is a Home Theater in a box deal, which
includes 4 satellite speakers & one 8" sub.

If it were me, I'd spend the extra money & get 2 larger floor model
speakers, 2 satellites for rears & a 10" or bigger sub.

Bottom line, those HT in a box are ok, but for real rumble & accurate sounds
while watching movies, go a bit bigger.

Sony is reliable though , no question.

    food for though

Come on DAVE! It's a Vette newsgroup! Just jump into your car, drive 55, go
in to Circuit City, have the sales man turn them all on at once (wide open),
expand your mind and get a life!!
My family has law enforcement all throughout it, and every one of us love a
hotrod! Be it a 28 T or a 33 coupe or a 69 or 75 vette, Big, small, we love
em all! I know every cop in this county! All the city officers, the county
sheriff's and state troopers! Like any place any job place you have good and
bad employees. Some make up the rules as they go along! Others follow the
GUIDELINES of the law to an extent, but every single one I've ever met likes
the POWER of being a cop and the chance to make a difference. Some of them
make it sadly personal with the difference (sorry if you have run into thes
cops guys) But mainly the officers can be Alright. And every single one I've
met knows what the acclerator pedal is for, and they love to use it, and it
doesn't have to be an emergency for them to cruise above the speed limit. So
Dave you just go ahead and cruise along at 55 and when we who drive just a
tad faster, pass you by we will wave! And if by chance a cop pulls me over
and gives me a ticket, well..... I'm not a name dropper... if I was speeding
and I can't talk him (or her) out of writing me up, I guess I'll pay the
piper cause I danced the dance! Don't get your shorts in a wad DAVE, Being a
DORK in this newsgroup is all you're doing with your Hoiler than thou
    opinions!
My great uncle was Melvin Pervis, (look him up if your wondering who he is!)
and Law enforcement runs in the whole family. But hey guys, If ya do get a
ticket, it's not my fault... (tell em Dave said it was ok!) LOL

I have the 64" Sony TV with surround sound and High Definition, as well as
a Sony DVD, Sony Satellite receiver, and Sony Playstation 2. I swear by
Sony A/V, as well as Sony monitors on all of my home PC's. The only
thing I would not recommend is Sony stereo equipment if you are any kind of
audiophile. For that I recommend Carver on the components, and Infinity on
the speakers. Macintosh also makes awesome tube amps, but I went with a
Carver holographic amplifier and it is every bit as "sweet" or "rich" as a
    tube amp.

My home theater system consists of:
    Yamaha HTR-5550 AV Receiver
JBL SCS150 Surround Sound System with Powered Subwoofer (150 watts RMS 10")
JVC XV-S500 Single Disc DVD with Digitial Direct Progressive Scan
    Toshiba 4 Head Hi-Fi w/ Commercial Skip
Hitachi Digital Ultravision HDTV Wide Screen TV 65"

When I went out to look for a system, I started to by a box deal and was
told it wasn't the best if you really want a theater sound. I bought my son
a Sony Box System and it's fine for his 35" TV and X-Box System hooked into
the internet. The system I bought (Yamaha/JBL) was the one recommended by
multiple stores, a couple that didn't even sell the unit. The DVD can be
just about ant kind as long as it has Progressive Scan. The VCR can be
anything. The Hitachi was my second choice after I sent 2 Mitsubishi's back
for problems, and the Hitachi ended up having a much better picture. I run
Digital Cable. The JBL's are great, they are small and I have them mounted
at the ceiling at each corner and the center speaker on top of the TV. I'm
not fond of the floor speakers. You can really tell the difference in
systems by playing either Top Gun or Twister with the volume up. In Top Gun
you can feel the plane move over your head from left to right, in Twister
you can hear and feel the twister move from speaker to speaker. With the
Sony it doesn't quite feel the same.

    Lineman,

I advertised THIS post as being off topic , so, if you didnt want to
read it (knowing it was not corvette related)...you didnt have to . But
you still did. You have no basis for complaining.

If you want to talk about your family , breaking speed limit laws, or
flaming...then please go to 'Speeding Ticket' Post or, start a new
Thread. Lastly, i dont think im better than anyone else ... but it was
my understanding when i came to this country that its Founders as well
    as its current laws, were for an America to be civilized and lawful ;
shouldnt we be fighting for that cause instead of making up lame excuses
to break any law we feel like breaking ? (<<<< that was a rhetorical
question . Start a new thread if you want to kick it around).

    Regards, Dave

Yeah, Infinity does make great speakers. Used to have 'em in an old car I
    used to have.

I think the Sony would be just fine for dave. That's what I have although,
I hooked it to some tower speakers. I don't have the backs hooked up since
I'm not cutting up my house to hear an airplane swoosh by esp. since my 4yr
old's room is directly above my entertainment system. The 5.1 does make it
sound better and good enough. Roughly comparable to driving 55mph in a
Corvette. Thrilling! I did go to Costco and bought a $99 powered sub and
threw it behind the TV. The subs that come with the Sony systems arent
powered. It's plenty loud/separated for a ho hum movie. The way I see it,
I'm not going to have a theater in my house anyway. The walls just aren't
conducive to having wires run through them without
cutting/spakling/painting. After you figure in the money end of things it
would probably cost me $3000 to get even a mediocre system in place. I just
don't watch that many movies to warrant it. The C5 on the other hand has a
dual cone 12in Alpine sub in a custom box which fits in the trunk (under the
cover so it looks like a sleeper) powered by an Alpine amp bridged to 700
watts. The rest is factory Bose and it sounds/pounds great! If I was
spending a lot of money on stereo stuff, I wouldn't put it in the house, I'd
put one of those DVD in dash players in for when I'm stuck behind dave on a
curvy, one lane road I could catch a movie.

If I were you I would buy the Yamaha YT740 system and get it off the net for
500 bucks. Better sound, better speakers, more features, totally integrated.
Best Buy sells it for 799 but it can be purchased elsewhere for far less.
