Chevrolet: O4 Malibu Remote Keyless entry/starter troubles

I just bought a used 04 Malibu with keyless remote entry and starter. I
bought this from a dealer and everything with the keyless remote worked
fine with the lock, unlock, trunk, and starter. I drive it away and now I
cannot get the remote to work at all. It shows a lock and theft security
system light on the dash but I can't get anything on the remote to work.
I tried changing the battery to no avail.

Am I missing some no brainer step in all this? Could I have accidentally
electronically locked something up with the remote? I have been trying to
follow the guidelines in the manual - again to no avail.

Any help/insight is greatly appreciated.
