GM / General Motors: noise from wheel on front.....help

My gmc sonoma truck,1998, has just started making this noise, a revolving
squeak while car is moving, drivers front side,when brakes are applied,it
changes even goes away briefly. Any suggestions?

possibly the brake pad's wear indicator tab is touching the rotor.
this will dig a groove into the rotor if not promptly serviced.
but this noise continues whether or not brakes are applied.
