Lexus: No discounts on RX330?

No discounts on RX330?
Lexus on Stevens Creek in San Jose, CA. is telling me that they do not
discount at all from MSRP on new RX330s.
I've never paid as much as MSRP for any vehicle, and I'm having trouble
believing this.
What have your experiences been?

They may not. They're an independent business, you know, able to set

All dealers are different. Try others. Hit the internet. Find a
buying service.
That being said, why are you hung up on MSRP? It's just a random number
that's really meaningless in and of itself. If the car is worth that,
the car is worth that. So what if it's what the sticker says? In fact,
the car could be worth much more in your marketplace--and by paying the
sticker, you could be getting a good deal.
Tell you what: let's play the dealer game, only let's play it at the
manufacturer level. In response to your concerns, how about next year
Lexus puts the sticker price at, say, $50K. Then you get there and you
get it for less than MSRP--say, $42K.
Are you happy? You got it for less than MSRP, right?
But gee....that's way more than the car *stickers* for this year...
Why don't you just evaluate the value of the car on its own merits
within the marketplace, and not against some random number stuck on the
window? The more you get hung up with MSRP, the more you lose. Either
the manufacturer plays your game and you lose by paying a bunch more
money, or you refuse to buy the car at what could be a very realistic
price in the marketplace and you lose out on buying the car because of
your pigheadedness and insistence on not paying what that random number
on the window says.

Re: No discounts on RX330?
just order one from Lexus of New Orleans at 3000 off MSRP but I also found
that FleetRates.com had a VERY GOOD PRICE FOR any RX 330 that you may
want.

You should be able to do way better than that. See:

#1607 of 1615 OK here is my deal by rats13 Nov 07, 2004 (8:11
pm)
Bought in SoCal. Wife wanted black/black with nav, heated seats & Mark
Levinson stereo. This combo necessitated getting a fully loaded car. We
looked for a FWD car in blk/blk and had no luck so we ended up with a
AWD blk/blk fully loaded with Nav/DVD/ML stereo/tow hitch/etc reciever.
MSRP 48,043
Invoice 41,681 +LDA 465 = $42,146
Paid 42,500 + tx approx $350 over invoice by my estimate.
It wasn't as smooth as a negotiation as I would have like cuz the
salesman quoted me originally $41,900 on the phone (supposedly on the
wrong trimmed car by mistake) to compete and the sales manager was stuck
on $43k for sometime but he finally stepped up a bit. I think it was
when I said I was feeling baited and switch even at $43k and was going
to be unhappy at that price.
Overall I think we did well, I just don't know why it has to be so hard
at the dealers each time.
Good luck to all and thanks for your help

I now have a different dealer a little further away, who will back off of
MSRP on a fully loaded vehicle by $3,500 (Not Levinson package, but
everything else for an MSRP of $44,833 and a selling price of $41,333) But
they are tacking on a $695.00 "shipping charge" They are getting us a
Breakwater blue over gray, and flat bedding it from Central California, so I
am willing to pay a bit extra for the service. Compared to the above deal,
it looks like I'm leaving about $2,500 too much on the table. But I don't
sense the deal is going to get better. What do you guys and girls think?
Go for it?

Thanks David, but I don't mind filtering noise from content. I really
appreciate your other response, it gave me a lot of content to work with.

According to the experiences of the people at the Edmunds link I gave
you, you should pay about 88.5% of MSRP and no more than 90% of MSRP.
Particularly in California where there are a lot of Lexus dealer and
they're very competitive. Keep shopping.
Tell the dealer what color, options, etc. you want and offer them 88% of
MSRP. BTW, if you go back to your original dealer and tell them you
have a bona fide offer of say, 89% of MSRP, there's an excellent chance
they'll give it to you for that. I did it and they came down to match
the other offer saying "we're not going to let them do that to us!"

I had plenty to say. Some people think that Lexus is a single entity
that sells cars. They don't understand that car dealers are independent
businesses, setting whatever prices they want.
That you didn't want to hear that, is your problem.

independent
What you said had little or no usefulness to the questioner (see his
comment re: noise vs. content). That you don't want to hear that, is
your problem.
