Toyota Trucks: New Oil Pump or Not

New Oil Pump or Not
I'm pulling the head on my 22RE to do a valve job so I'm replacing the
timing chain and gears with a DOA kit. My TG cover isn't scored so I'm
not going to replace that but since I've got the cover off and have easy
access to the oil pump I'm thinking it might be a good time to replace it.
The oil pump has been working faithfully all along but the truck's got
149,000 miles and I'm wondering what the life expectancy is for a stock
oil pump. Is an oil pump something that should need replacing on a
mileage/time basis or something that should outlast the rest of the
engine?
TIA
Jerry

I've heard of 22R pumps going for 200k but why not replace it now when
you've already got easy access to it. Its a cheap and easy fix.

In article <com>, feck says...
Are you suppose to replace the oil pump?, My engine has 463k on it, I only
replace the seals when I did a timing chain job.

Cheap insurance!
I had 149000 on my jeep cherokee and had the front main seal replaced. The
mechanic suggested I change the oil pump while it was apart. I said no since it
hadn't been a problem. Two weeks later it quit and ruined the engine. I learned
an expensive lesson.
