Re: Neon
That price is kind of high for that year/miles. I paid that for my
daughter's 2000 Neon, 2 years ago and it had 68k miles on it. She is still
driving it and it is about to turn - minimum problems to date. Her first
car was a 1st. generation Neon but that was totaled by a kid in daddy's
Mercedes. Parts for these cars are, for the most part, all still
proprietary (dealership only - no after market). My neighbor just sold a
2001 with 54k miles on it and a 2 year extended warranty for $5,000. My
advice - look around first. The Neon is a great 1st. car but that price is
too high for that year/miles.
Go to www.kbb.com and price the car in all 3 ranges (Trade-In, Private
Party, and Retail). Get a price for the car (same car example) for all
three categories. Take an average of the three and don't pay any more than
that. That will set your limit.
Next, you can go to www.autotrader.com and find some of the same car you
performed the pricing on in the above. I do this all the time and have yet
been dealt a bad deal. The Dodge/Plymouth Neon (same car - sold under two
different names) is a great starter car. Don't get a 1st generation Neon -
no matter how good the deal. They "all" have bad head gaskets and it will
cost you time, money, and aggravation to fix it. http://www.neons.org/ The
2nd. and 3rd. generation Neons (2000-2002)(2003-current) respectively, are a
good car. It is a total re-design and most, if not all, the issues with the
first generation have been fixed.
Good luck and Merry Christmas.....

My daughter drives one with about 90K on it...so far so good! She bought it
new in July 1999. The price you quoted is a bit high though, I think.

Neon
I have a 2001 Dodge Neon and I had SEVERAL problems with it since I bought
it, I had to fix my transmission 3 times and other issues. They would not
give me a new car at the time and I was tired of fighting with Chrysler.
Now my check engine light is coming on and I haven't took it to get a
diagnosis yet because I had an accident and waiting for my car to be
repaired.
My question is that when I push my foot on the gas, my car stalls and then
pick up speed and the check engine light will blink on and off and then
remain on. Every time I get to a red light and it's time to go, it keeps
stalling, can I get an idea as to what are my possibilities?

Re: Neon
fuel delivery issue or vacuum leak somewhere, i would think. the symptoms
sound similar to what the older cars do when there is a fuel or vacuum
problem. should probably look into the timing, check the air intake for
blockage (a 2003 protege5's air filter has to be absolutely perfectly clean,
or it lags a teensie on acceleration and the 'check engine' light blinks *OR
it has to have an expensive, more free-flowing filter*) and possibly the
exhaust for blockage.
just some thoughts, considering it has been crashed and all.

Re: Neon
Sounds like you've found yourself a "factory lemon". I think that some cars
are better than others based on production date, day of the week, etc. I
highly doubt any car company just shuts down the line if there's something a
bit out of whack, hence recalls. You probably just have one of those cars
from a bad day. It happens.

If the check engine lite is flashing, that's a cylinder misfire, and if you
keep driving it, it will tear up the catalytic converter, you don't state
what mileage this vehicle has but I would guess over 30k.
Chances are a good set of mopar wires and plugs will cure your problem.
