need answers on 84 vette
some have told me 84 was a bad year, my question is why was it a bad year? i
have an opportunity as a first time owner to get a nice red one in great
condition, low miles for 7000. please i need some input. is it worth buying?

Re: need answers on 84 vette
Sure buy it. the reason some cars are "Bad" is when a model changes
significantly. 84 was the first model of it's body style just like the 53,
63, 68 and 97 were. I remember drooling over the 84s. Most people here would
love to have a 53 or 63.
Later models in a style usually have some improvements, but not enough to
say I wouldn't touch the first year.

Re: need answers on 84 vette
The 84 was known as one of the worst "first production year" Corvettes.
Plagued with electrical and other problems. The "Cross Fire"
ignition/intake system was also known as the "Mis Fire", "cease Fire", etc.
I have a "first production year problem car" also. My attitude is though,
after 35 years and a full restoration, how many "problems" could the car
still have??

Re: need answers on 84 vette
The real first production year for the C-4 was '83. They were so screwed
up that not one was ever sold. The '84 is a fine car with no more
electrical problems than any other vette except the '68. Crossfire
injection works very well provided you have it set up with the proper
balanced pressure. Like any vette it requires maintenance and attention.
Love and understanding.

Don't get nasty on my 68...What electrical problems? Everything is vacuum
operated, there are no electrics.

Seems a bit high to me. The ride on the 84 is quite rough, as well as
the other items people have mentioned. The HP on the 84 is 30 less
than an 85 due to Crossfire vs. Tuned Port Injection. Lots of rattles
(more than other cars).
If I were to buy another vette, I would get the latest model year for
the money I could spend. They only get better.
