Ferrari: Need advice

Need advice
Hi,
I'm new in the subject of Ferrari's.
I've been looking to buy a Testarossa. But what troubles me is the cost of
maintenance. Can anyone give me any idea.
Lots of thanks
Yves

Depends on where you are and which model you purchase.
Generally speaking, in California USA the basic minimum quote for an engine
out major service (30,000 miles or X years) is $7,000 USD. Clutch
replacement is around every 20,000 miles at $2,500 or so. Rear tires are
known to wear out quickly, and brakes as the vehicle is heavy, and torque
laden.
Electronics are reputedly fairly stable and reliable, if that word can be
used.
Catalytic converters are reputed to burn in later years.
My mechanic advises that if one is looking for a reliable model, the 328 in
later years is reliable, and running costs aren't too high.
Also, on the Testarossa, look for leather to have lifted, or shrunk in the
interior, bolster wear, and so on.

Re: Need advice
LIW,
Thanks
I live in Europe.
Another question : I wanted to buy a car like that as I future
oldtimer/classic + the fact that it has always been a dream. Now I've been
into restoring cars for ages now and I know my way around cars.... can
someone with reasonable mechanical experience do his own maintenance ?
I've found some company in the US that is selling workshop manuals for these
cars. So that should help me out a lott.
Thanks again.

I don't know. If you are used to pulling engines outto do tune ups, I
suppose so. I haven't pulled an engine since the 60s, so I rely solely on
mechanics. I'd be more tempted to work on my own 328 than a Testarossa, but
there are others here that know much more than I do, or you could ask this
question at Ferrari.chat.

How dull!
Stick around here and get a bunch of offensive ill-informed
rubbish instead...
....and we're better looking here.
....and when Psycho Mike gets his connection back, it'll be much more fun.

Realistically you'd need access to a lift. If I am not mistaken when you
take the engine out you have to drop it out the bottom.

Hey now, I've been instructed to do so, but never
followed through. That's more MCPD's arena...
Or so the legend goes...
