I got the velocity red, which looks more like candy apple red(mica) than
classic red,and the leather interior. No dealers in Maine carry the
MazdaSpeed,so I had to drive almost 4 hours to New Hampshire to buy it.
It was fun driving home tho.I did manage to keep it under 90 as I was
breaking it in. the 6 speed feels smoother than the '99s 5 speed. I
missed a shift a couple of times as I was playing boy racer! I'll get
used to it as soon as it stops raining. Its been raining ever since I
got home,so the car has become a garage ornament.
It gets quicker to the red line than the '99,and very smooth! It puts a
smile on my face when I race through the gears.
The boot cover fits a lot better, and doesn't flap around like the '99.
As a matter of fact I haven't had it off yet; and haven't seen the cloth
top. I want to take it off slowly, and remember how it's attached,so I
put it on right.
The Bose is ok,6 disc in dash changer is nice. It needs a subwoofer. I
thought it would ride harsher than the base"99,but it doesn't! I
averaged 26 mpg on the 3-4 hour race home.
Best of all,my wife loved the car the minute she set eyes on it!!
BTW,I replied once before but it must have gotten lost in space.

I'm new here and only recently purchased my Miata. Do most people
change their own oil, take it to a corner shop or take it to a Mazda
dealer?

A frequent subject of controversy. I take it to a corner shop
and watch them closely. I give them a Mazda oil filter to use,
which has a back flow valve.
Instructions for doing it yourself are on miata.net. Reaching
the oil filter is the biggest difficulty.

Re: MazdaSpeed
I'd suggest that you use full synthetic oil. This (in theory) helps keep the
turbo bearings in good condition.

How stupid of me. I overlooked it was a turbo. The synthetic is
also recommended for my supercharger because of the higher engine
temperatures (I use Mobil 1), but a turbo in addition is revving
much higher than a belt SC and lubricated by engine oil.
