    Manual trans/clutch rattle

Got a '97 Neon with a rattle when the clutch is engaged (foot off the
pedal). I did some poking around and removed the bell housing plug to take
a look, and noticed the top of the release fork bouncing around(maybe 1/4"
to each side). Seemed to me that that is the source of the noise, but I'm
not too sure. But, as the clutch pedal is slowly pushed, the cable is
tensioned and the fork stops vibrating, and the noise goes away.
Now I thought about a simple clutch adj, but one source told me that
the clutch is self-adjusting, and I couldn't find a process for it or
pedal freeplay specs in my Chiltons.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't have the service manual for a Neon, but I think there is a mechanism
that holds the release fork onto its pivot. My guess is this mechanism has
broken. You don't want the release bearing engaged to the pressure plate at
all times as that would shorten its life significantly.

Yeah, I was thinking that the bushing that the release fork pivots on is
done. That stinks if thats the case, because I don't feel like yanking the
    trans.
