Maintence cost differences between BMW / Honda / Acura
Im thinking of getting a new car and theres a few factors i wanted some info
on.....
Maintence cost - Something small or big breaks, how much would it cost for a
BMW compared to a Honda or Acura?
Im looking at either a 323-325, Accord03 Coupe, or RSX...
Of course BMW is what i want most, but im guessing it would cost the most to
maintain......any advise guys?

Labour rates are going to be similar at any large dealership. So the
issues are parts cost and reliability. In the UK BMW parts are pretty
cheap mail order, great if you can fit them yourself. But at the dealer
things are a good bit dealer, probably not that much more than other
brands though.
As far as reliability BMWs are pretty good. Maybe not as good as some
Japanese brands but then BMW owners may well expect more from their cars
and not accept faults owners of lessr marques may just live with.

Neither will cost you much till you approach 100,000 miles. Then the
BMW --dealer service, outrageously overpriced--will cost you $1400 per year
vs. $800 for the Honda.
You can offset this by buying used instead of new, of course, or avoiding
the dealer.

Add the time to do the change and then the hassle (travel time, finding a
place) of disposing of the old oil and filter and soon the time cost adds
up. I guess it all depends on how much your time is worth.

Synthetic oil prices must have come down. The last time I bought it (5-6
years ago), Mobil 1 cost at least $4.25 a quart. At six quarts for the
change + the filter, that's about $35.00 for labor & not having to dispose
of the old oil & filter. I usually combine it with any warranty work or
service recalls necessary, & my dealer generally gets me in and out in less
than two hours. As I have had two recent back operations, it is worth it -
your situation, of course, may be different.

Yep. When I had a turbo car I used Castrol Syntec 10W-40 full synthetic,
and the cheapest I ever saw it was $16 for a gallon jug a Wal-Mart. Of
course, the dealer will probably charge $6 or $7 per quart.

OP asked about new. All BMW's since about 1999 have come with synthetic in
the U.S.
